The latest estimates (as of 2024) are that Peak Oil Production will occur between 2034 (Goldman Sachs) on the low side, up to 2050 on the high side (US Energy Information Admin.) Regardless of what year the slowdown begins, there are still hundreds of other uses for oil that the world will continue to depend on every day - including creating solar panels. (see chart here)
Natural gas is considered a key component in the transition to a cleaner future because it's cleaner and more efficient than other fossil fuels, and it can help reduce emissions while the world transitions to renewable energy.
Natural gas also happens to be an abundant resource in the US, providing guaranteed 24/7 energy reliability (regardless of weather), and at a much lower price than renewables.
